The Christian Council for
Reconciliation is a non-profit organization dedicated to ministry
with prisoners and their families during their incarceration and after
their release. The Council is made up of many volunteers: people from all
walks of life, a wide cross-section of organizations, churches, religious orders
and social groups who feel called by God to Christ’s ministry of
reconciliation: "when I was in prison you visited me" (Gospel of Matthew
25.26).
Our theological preamble, mission statement and vision statement and by-laws can be
found here.
These are revised by-laws and were adopted at our Annual Meeting on May
31st, 2008.
A list of current supporters can be found
here.
In all that the Council does we
seek to promote reconciliation between the prisoner and God, the
prisoner and self, and the prisoner and others.
Council volunteers share in the ministry in a variety of ways: through visits to federal and provincial prisons, participation in the Kairos Marathon program, offering leadership at a program at St. Luke's Renewal Centre, serving on the Board of
Directors of the Council or on the Springhouse Board of Management. In addition, volunteers write letters, assist families with special problems and advocate for safe and humane treatment of all prisoners... and the list goes on!
The Council publishes a newsletter twice a year. In it we seek to tell the story of our work and how the Spirit is
actively at work in the lives of the men and women and their families that we work with.
