Our Mission

The Mission of the Christian Council for Reconciliation is:

"To promote reconciliation

between the prisoner and God,

the prisoner and her/his family,

the prisoner and self and

the prisoner and others."

The Council is made up of interested and committed persons from various faith traditions and organizations.  Together we seek to fulfil the Mission of the Council through three primary ministries: Kairos Marathons, St. Luke's Renewal Centre and Springhouse.

There are great spiritual and social needs in Canada today. Prisoners and their families are a growing group of people who are becoming increasingly isolated from society.  We believe that the gospel of reconciliation is the answer to the needs of so many.

Members of the Council would be quick to say that the Spirit has touched their life in such a manner that they want to share the love of God with all people - especially those who find themselves in contact with the Corrections system.

The One who we follow, Jesus Christ has given us a mandate: "All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation." II Cor 5:18

You can share in this ministry. Volunteer in one of the ministries. Share in a prayer list. Pray for peace among prisoners, staff, and volunteers. For prisoners who have been or are about to be released back into society. For the healing of prisoners who suffer from injuries and physical or mental illnesses. For the families of prisoners: spouses, children, mothers, fathers, etc. For the safety and well-being of volunteers. For the financial support of organizations ministering to prisoners. For Community Chaplains and their support team of volunteers. Support the Council Financially. Over 50% of the Council's funding comes from the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia. We need the support of individuals and individual churches.
